Working in the industry? Anonymously donate your old CVs and cover letters so newbies can see how it's done...

Most of the CV and cover letter advice floating around out there is poor and generic, whether it originates from online sources or a university lecture theatre.

A far better way to help those at the bottom of the career ladder is to show them CVs and cover letters produced by people who are working in the industry.

It would be hugely appreciated if people could donate any CVs and cover letters they have lying around on their hard-drive, which led to them successfully landing a job in journalism, television, online, publishing, communications, or any of the other media disciplines.

It's quick and easy to do, and will be very helpful to many people.

Data usage and privacy are the main concerns you might have, so let's address those:

  • All personal information will be removed from the CV and cover letter.
  • Here is an example of a CV with all sensitive info removed.
  • Here is an example of a cover letter with all sensitive info removed.
  • The only person you'll be dealing with is me, Billy Dowling-Reid, via the hello@mediargh.com email address.

The idea is to publish these CV and cover letter files as downloadable .PDFs right here on the Mediargh website so that folk can browse them for inspiration and guidance - whether that be with regards to the CV layout, cover letter length, what information to keep or omit, and how you made the transition from student to pro.

If you are interested in donating your CV and/or cover letter examples then please email hello@mediargh.com.

Your time and a small amount of effort would be hugely appreciated by many.
